On or after January 1, 2017, the minimum salary for non-European Economic Area nationals applying for work authorization under the European Blue Card program with an employment contract start date of January 1, 2017 or later will increase to EUR 39,624 per year for shortage occupations, up from EUR 38,688 per year. For non-shortage occupations, the minimum salary will increase to EUR 50,800 per year, up from EUR 49,600 per year.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Employers planning to file new or renewal EU Blue Card applications on or after January 1, 2017 should consider the increased salary threshold and costs in their corporate budgets.
