Senior Manager, Media Relations & Communications

The Media Relations and Communications Manager will manage the firm’s media relations and communications program and develop and implement firmwide communications and targeted media plans with reach to the legal, general business, trade and web press. Bearing in mind the complexities and sensitivities of the global immigration environment, the Media Relations and Communications Manager will focus on raising the firm’s profile and proactively seeking opportunities areas such as technology and innovation, diversity, pro bono and thought leadership.

This role works closely with the CMBDO and the PR Partner, and collaborates with partners, the Marketing & BD leadership team, HR and other Corporate departments. Additionally, the Strategic Media Relations and Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing the firm’s various PR agency relationships to help ensure a strong ROI and to actively manage risk. 


Media Strategy and Relations:

  • Create media strategies that promote and protect our leading market position and raise the visibility of the firm in markets where we are still growing our presence.
  • Raise our profile in key areas of strength such as technology and innovation, diversity, pro bono and thought leadership.
  • Deliver a strong, consistent voice firmwide.
  • Act as a point of contact for press inquiries.
  • Coordinate interviews and meetings with reporters, partners and other firm spokespeople (e.g., CIO).
  • Establish and cultivate key relationships with members of the press.

PR Agencies:

  • Review and assess current relationships worldwide to determine strength of offerings and ROI.
  • Make recommendation on the best way forward.
  • Track and monitor progress on an ongoing basis to ensure continued ROI and appropriate understanding of firm strategy and risk appetite.

Profile Raising and Placements:

  • Disseminate key messages and achieve the media coverage goals of the firm, individual offices/regions and specific service areas (e.g., government strategies, private client, technology, etc.).
  • Position Fragomen lawyers and wider team as “immigration experts” for use by media.
  • Actively generate and seek story ideas and pitch to local and national legal, general business, trade and web press.
  • Promote firm developments externally (e.g., office openings, new partners, pro bono initiatives).
  • Write press releases and other publicity copy.
  • Monitor editorial calendars of relevant publications and communicate/recommend opportunities.
  • Prepare and coach lawyers for interviews and press interactions. Create concise, high quality prep materials in timely fashion to partners prior to media interactions.
  • Leverage and repurpose content produced across the global firm, including client alerts, blogs, byline articles, conference presentations, etc. for distribution via media outlets.
  • Identify strategic alliances to co-produce and brand content that will position us as thought leaders across industries.
  • Make recommendations to improve directory and awards submissions’ processes.


  • Develop style guidelines in coordination with the RFP Team to ensure communications are consistent across offices/regions.
  • Develop crisis communications strategy in conjunction with CMBDO and Executive Committee members.
  • Create media training guide for Fragomen Playbook in accordance with the firm’s strategy.
  • Build awareness of firm developments internally (i.e., before they are announced externally).
  • Develop effective communication plans to ensure that all stakeholders are considered, all issues addressed, etc.
  • Coordinate with communications’ liaisons in different Corporate departments to ensure timely, helpful firmwide messages.
  • Refine the weekly marketing communications and review before dissemination (e.g., weekly media digest, events digest).
  • Develop content in conjunction with team members for the Marketing & BD Quarterly Update.

Social Media:

  • Recommend media placements for additional promotion via firm's Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and other social media channels.
  • Review digital marketing content and determine placement of important communications on the firm’s website.

Award Submissions:

  • Maintain and grow the firm’s position in awards, rankings and industry related events.
  • Draft compelling, easy to digest content for legal, business and IT media award submissions.


  • Develop reporting metrics for evaluating and tracking our visibility programs and media coverage.
  • Develop competitive intelligence on an ongoing basis across all media channels.
  • Review analytics with Digital Team and make recommendations to improve readership.
  • Oversee production of weekly media digest.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications/PR, Journalism, Marketing, English or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in corporate communications and media relations.
  • Law firm or other professional services experience preferred.
  • Experience with immigration practice a plus.
  • Significant media contacts in the legal industry and with other relevant press.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to think strategically and provide communications’ counsel and coaching.
