Executive Summary
Immigration authorities in Tanzania have confirmed that all travelers entering Tanzania must now present a yellow fever certificate. This requires travelers to be vaccinated at least 10 days prior to entry.
The situation
The Tanzania Airports Authority has published a rule requiring all travelers entering Tanzania to present a yellow fever certificate upon entry.
- Impact. Obtaining a yellow fever certificate requires a vaccination at least 10 days prior to travel. This adds an extra step to the entry process for travelers who were previously not required to obtain this certificate.
- Certificate details. Information on the certificate validity requirements, a sample certificate and other information is available on the Airports Authority website.
- Consequences of noncompliance. Failure to present a yellow fever certificate may result in denial of entry or an order to undergo a yellow fever vaccination upon entry.
Background
The World Health Organization requires travelers to present a yellow fever certificate to enter Tanzania only if they have visited a country at risk for yellow fever.
However, the Tanzanian Embassy in Praetoria and the Tanzanian immigration authorities have confirmed that all travelers are now subject to the stricter rule published by the Tanzania Airports Authority.
