The situation
Immigration authorities (Superintendencia Nacional de Migraciones) have eliminated the requirement for foreign nationals in Peru under a Residence Visa and their dependents who seek to renew their visa to pay the annual tax to the immigration authorities by the first trimester of each calendar year.
Impact
Foreign workers who paid their annual tax by March 31, 2017 and who either filed or seek to file a Residence Visa renewal application in 2018 will benefit from this change since they no longer need to pay their annual tax.
This will reduce the cost of residing in Peru and will streamline the Residence Visa renewal process.
Fragomen has paid the appropriate fine for foreign workers who failed to pay the annual tax by March 31, 2017 who filed a renewal application.
