Update May 7, 2024: The Federal Police’s online passport application appointment system is back online, and passport services have been restored.
April 18, 2024: The Brazilian Federal Police, the entity responsible for processing passports for Brazilian nationals in the country, has temporarily shut down its online passport application appointment system due to budgetary constraints. The Federal Police has announced it will honor appointments scheduled prior to the system shutdown. Applicants who already received an appointment filing date will be able to submit their passport application on their appointment date. Individuals with emergency passport requests (for health, work, humanitarian, or other urgent purposes at the discretion of the Federal Police) should submit their application in person at a Federal Police passport issuance unit. There is no clear date for resolution, though the Federal Police has announced it is working towards a swift restoration of passport services. Fragomen will report on relevant developments.
