Canada: Ontario Provincial Nominee Allocation Significantly Reduced for 2025

The Government of Canada has significantly reduced Ontario’s allocation under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) for 2025, allotting the province 10,750 nominations, a 50% decrease from the nominations issued in 2024. The OINP is Ontario’s economic immigration program, through which the province nominates foreign nationals for permanent residence based on their skills and potential to contribute to the provincial economy.  With far fewer nominations available in 2025, Ontario is expected to receive more applications than permitted under the reduced quota. As a result, applicants should anticipate longer processing times and increased competition for nomination. The reduction is in line with the government’s plan to reduce permanent resident targets throughout 2025-2027 and follows a similar reduction in allocations for British Columbia earlier this year.
