Canada: Transition to Online Applications for Labour Market Impact Assessments Forthcoming

Starting in April 2023, Employment and Social Development Canada will be transitioning to digital applications for Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIA) under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. As of April 2023, Canadian employers (or their third-party representatives) must submit their LMIA application to Service Canada via the LMIA Online Portal and will no longer have the option to submit their applications via paper or fax. The LMIA Online Portal will allow employers to submit LMIA applications, complete or return to an LMIA application before submitting it to Service Canada, upload supporting documents, pay LMIA fees (if applicable), access real-time updates on the application status, and view correspondence and decision letters issued by Service Canada, among other options.
