Canada: United Kingdom Added to CPTPP Work Permit Provisions
September 10, 2026
Effective September 1, 2026, Canada added the United Kingdom as an eligible country under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and updated its related immigration instructions accordingly. The CPTPP is an international trade agreement between Canada and several partner countries that facilitates the temporary entry of certain professionals and technicians. Under its Professionals and Technicians category, eligible foreign nationals may obtain a Canadian work permit through the International Mobility Program.
UK nationals working in designated financial, scientific, engineering, technology, business, management and other professional fields may now qualify if they have a Canadian employment offer in an eligible occupation, meet the applicable education and experience requirements, and will receive at least the prevailing wage. The complete list of eligible professions, as well as program details and eligibility requirements, can be found on the Canadian government’s website.
