Cash Payments No Longer Accepted for Visas on Arrival

The situation

Effective immediately, cash payments will no longer be accepted at any federal airports in Nigeria, according to an announcement by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

A closer look

In an effort to reduce corruption and increase efficiency, the FAAN will now require visa on arrival seekers arriving at the following federal airports in Nigeria to pay government fees electronically through approved channels:

• Murtala Muhammed International Airport; and
• Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

 

Impact

As cash payments are no longer accepted, foreign nationals traveling to Nigeria must consider either of the following options:

• Have their debit cards on hand in order to pay visa fees on arrival; or
• Pay visa fees on the Nigerian government website prior to arrival.

 

Background

The Nigerian government implemented this policy to better track payees and payments for immigration processes.
