Chile: Digital Work Authorization Process Introduced
August 19, 2026
Chile’s National Immigration Service (SERMIG) recently announced a new digital Work Authorization (Habilitación Laboral) Certificate, available free of charge through the government’s online immigration platform. According to SERMIG, the certificate is intended to provide foreign nationals and employers with a quick way to check whether an individual is authorized to perform remunerated activities in Chile and includes a QR code for validation.
Employers should continue to verify work authorization through a comprehensive review of each individual’s immigration documentation and status, including, as applicable, relevant approvals, permits, entry records and residence activation requirements and for now, should use the new certificate as a supplementary verification tool rather than as a substitute for a full work authorization assessment.
