Chile: Update on Concession for Expired Passports and Identification Cards for Venezuelan Nationals
April 26, 2023
The concession allowing Venezuelan nationals with expired passports or identification cards to enter and regularize their status in Chile expired on April 22, 2023. The government has not yet extended the concession. As a result, Venezuelan nationals with expired identification documents face restrictions in traveling abroad and initiating immigration applications, as usually, a foreign national’s passport or identification card must be valid upon arrival to enter Chile, and passports must be valid to apply for a residence permit (for certain application types for at least 12 months). Affected Venezuelan nationals should contact their immigration professional for case-specific advice. Fragomen will report on relevant developments.
