Colombia: Reminder – Immigration Consequences for Colombian Companies Failing to Annually Renew Commercial Registration

As a reminder, Colombian companies are required to renew their commercial registration (Matrícula Mercantil ) annually; this year’s deadline is March 31, 2026. The renewal allows these companies to obtain a valid Certificate of Existence and Legal Representation, which is required for visa/permit sponsorship. Delays in registering could result in the inability to sponsor foreign nationals for visas, technical permits, professional permits, and other processes. Employers should contact their immigration professional for case-specific advice.
