Costa Rica: Technical Issues with Online Visa Application System Causing Delays

Update November 27, 2023: As an update, the DGME has restored online services but has announced that certain foreign nationals who are notified by the DGME's online service provider must re-file their immigration applications. Fragomen is contacting affected clients for case-specific advice.
The General Immigration Directorate’s electronic platform (called TramiteYa!) on which foreign nationals can file initial immigration applications, is currently offline due to technical issues. It is not clear when the issue will be resolved. Foreign nationals applying for initial visas online (including Short-Term Visas and accredited-company residence applications), and their employers, should account for delays in work start dates. Affected applicants should consult with their immigration providers to determine if there are other application alternatives, such as in-person filing at the General Immigration Directorate. Fragomen is actively monitoring the system and reaching out to affected clients with case-specific advice. We will report on relevant developments.
