Deadline for OCI in Lieu of PIO Card Applications Extended Until June 30, 2016
February 29, 2016
Following the announcement for Person of India Origin card holders to submit Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) in lieu of Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card applications by March 31, 2016, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has now extended the application deadline to June 30, 2016.
What This Means for Foreign Nationals
Given this extension, Fragomen strongly recommends that all PIO card holders apply for the OCI in lieu of PIO category, as it is anticipated that the switch will be made mandatory.
Fragomen India is working with the MHA to determine the status of PIO card holders after June 30, 2016. Further advice will be published when it becomes available.
