Denmark: Authorities Warn of Immigration-Related Hoax Calls Requesting Personal Information

The Danish Immigration Service has issued a warning about ongoing phone scams in which fraudsters impersonate immigration service representatives. These scammers use a phone number that matches the official Danish Immigration Service’s main line in order to deceive individuals and extract personal information. Dutch authorities reported that the callers often claim that the call recipient’s residence permit is about to expire and demand their Civil Personal Registration number to prevent its cancellation. Authorities emphasized that these calls are fraudulent, stated that they would never contact individuals in this way, and urged individuals affected by scams to call the police at 114 as well as visit the website sikkerdigital.dk for more information about handling scams.
