As of July 20, 2023, employers in Ethiopia hiring foreign nationals must register on the Expatriate Work Permit portal to utilize services such as submitting or renewing work permit applications as well as cancelling or replacing work permits. As part of the registration process, the employer must submit a list of all employees on company letterhead to prove that it has met the required ratio of one foreign employee to every 10 Ethiopian employees. There are no other changes to the submission, issuance or other related processes for employers submitting work permit applications.
