European Union: Entry/Exit System (EES) Launch Delayed
January 18, 2023
The European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (eu-LISA) is working on a revised timeline for the implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES), which was originally scheduled to be operational by the end of May 2023. Due to the launch delay, third-country nationals traveling to the European Union will continue to have their passports manually stamped until the EES is fully operational. It is expected that border crossing points will be fully equipped for the use of the EES by the end of 2023. We will report on related developments.
