Foreign nationals who are required to register at the police headquarters with jurisdiction over their residential area but fail to do so within eight days of arrival may face discretionary fines from €103 to €309, according to a recent amendment to Italy’s immigration law.
Foreign nationals required to register include non-visa nationals who enter Italy from another Schengen country for business or tourism stays of up to 90 days.
Holders of long-term visas, those entering Italy from a non-Schengen country and those staying in a hotel are exempt from the registration requirement.
What This Means for Foreign Nationals
Foreign nationals subject to the registration requirement must bring a passport and a copy of their incoming flight tickets to their local police headquarters within eight days of arrival to avoid fines.
