
Update – April 16, 2024: Finland has confirmed that its closure of all land borders with Russia will remain in place until further notice. Additionally, Finland now prohibits travel to or from several Russian seaports.
Update – February 8, 2024: Finland has confirmed that its closure of all land borders with Russia will remain in place until at least April 14, 2024.
Update – January 17, 2024: Finland has confirmed that its closure of all land borders with Russia will remain in place until at least February 11, 2024 (after having already extended such closures into January 2024).
Update – November 28, 2023: On November 30, 2023, Finland will close its Raja-Jooseppi border crossings with Russia until December 13, 2023. Up to now, Raja-Jooseppi has been only open border crossing between the two countries, following Finland’s closure of all other crossing points.
Update – November 23, 2023: Finland will close the border crossings of Kuusamo and Salla from November 24, 2023 until December 23, 2023. The Vartius border crossing – which was closed on November 21, 2023 – will now remain closed until December 23, 2023. Following these closures, the Raja-Jooseppi border crossing point will be the sole available border crossing between Finland and Russia.
Update – November 21, 2023: In addition to the below closures, Finland has temporarily closed its Vartius border crossing from November 21, 2023 until November 27, 2023.
Finland will close the following border crossings with Russia on November 18, 2023 until at least February 18, 2024: Imatra, Niirala, Nuijamaa, and Vaalimaa border crossing points (all located in southeastern Finland). Affected travelers will need to utilize other entry options to Russia.
