Fragomen will be co-hosting the Namibia Local Content and Networking Event, along with Africa House on Thursday, 8 June 2023. This will be a hybrid event with a focus on in-person networking and presentations on Local Content.
Currently there are intense debates on how to prevent Namibia from suffering from the "Dutch Disease" or "resource curse" due to the expected benefits that will flow from the massive oil and gas discoveries. There is no doubt Local Content regulations will be at the center of addressing this issue. Namibia's oil and gas reserves have been estimated at 11 billion barrels, putting the country on par with countries like Angola and Nigeria. Recently, a third major oil discovery, Jonker-1X, was made shortly after the success of the Graff-1X and Venus-1X discoveries by Shell and TotalEnergies in 2022.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy, along with other institutions, are in the process of conducting various stakeholder consultations to assist in the drafting of Local Content regulations. Our keynote speakers are experts on this subject and will present the latest outcomes, regulations, and feedback on Local Content in Namibia.
