Fragomen’s UK Immigration School
October 4, 2022 — October 25, 2022 | 6:00 PM — 8:00 PM BST
Why are we holding an immigration school?
We started the immigration school in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic made it harder to attend classes, there were fewer opportunities to find work experience and complications with educational results created difficulties for students completely outside of their control. Whilst the fallout from the pandemic is diminishing, we still want to help. The immigration school has been so successful in the previous two years, with over 400 attendees last year, with great speakers and fantastic feedback from attendees.
When you come to apply for jobs, your CV will be judged on your qualifications and wider experience. The more you can demonstrate intellectual curiosity and an interest in learning outside of school, the better. Work experience and other extra-curricular activities are important too. When you are in an interview situation, your CV needs to help guide the interviewer’s questions and your answers need to help you stand out.
How could the immigration school help?
You will be able to list your participation on your CV, an interesting addition which an assessor could pick up on. At interview you may be able to talk about how you found out about the scheme and what you learned. There will be plenty of learning to help you answer those questions well. We want participants to finish the immigration school understanding more about:
- A career in immigration law – the work, the learning and the pathway
- Fragomen a global law firm – the work we do, UK immigration, managing a law firm, the related tech and innovation
- Global mobility – what is it and what are the career paths into it?
- Recruitment – what is involved, what steps do you need to take and what do employers look for?
- Making a difference – what is Corporate Social Responsibility and what organisations can you get involved with?
Who should get involved?
Students who are interested in immigration law, law as a whole and global mobility. At the start of your career the options can be daunting. You may have already decided on a career in immigration and law or may be exploring what’s out there. Either way, the immigration school will guide you through pursuing a career in law, or a role at a law firm and how to approach job applications and interviews. There are many different roles that are integral to the successful running of a law firm; Finance, IT, Marketing, Human Resources, and we will also discuss these.
If a first-hand account of the inner workings of a law firm sounds interesting to you, you will enjoy the immigration school. Not only will we have speakers from legal professions, but also clients that we work with, global mobility professionals and charities.
Who can get involved?
We are holding the immigration school because we want to help students who will soon be embarking on their career journey. Therefore, the school is aimed at those who are in full time education from A-Levels - or equivalent – upwards and those who have finished higher education (degree level) in the past year. People taking time out also very welcome, and we have accepted younger students who are particularly interested.
How will it work?
The school will run over four evenings, every Tuesday, between 04 October 2022 and 25 October 2022. Once you have registered, we will send over the school schedule and log in details, and you will be able to join online. Whilst the pandemic restrictions have eased, holding the school online means we can accept far more attendees than in person. Participation is encouraged and there is functionality to enable attendees to ask questions and provide comments during the sessions.
How can you register?
If you are interested in taking part then please click the register button to the application page to be considered.
The deadline for applying is 2 October 2022. Full joining instructions will be sent to selected participants before the end of September.
