Georgia: Authorities Request Police Clearances on Ad Hoc Basis
October 21, 2025
Immigration practitioners have observed that immigration authorities in Georgia have, on an ad hoc basis, begun occasionally asking temporary residence permit applicants – both first time and renewal applicants – for police clearance certificates. This appears to represent an internal administrative policy adjustment, as authorities have not formally announced the change. Applicants will be notified of the requirement to source a certificate during the application process. If requested, a certificate may be required for the principal applicant and any dependent applicants. Applicants required to provide certificates as part of their temporary residence application will typically be granted additional time to source the certificate.
