Georgia: New Online Portal and Registration Requirement and Stricter Penalties for Noncompliance with Employment Contract Rules

Employers must now register foreign nationals seeking an employment residence permit or D1 visa on a new online government portal. The new law also outlines new requirements for the content and format of an employment contract for foreign nationals (including that it must be for a fixed term and in a language the foreign national can understand) and prescribes higher fines and stricter administrative penalties for noncompliance with the related rules. These rules bring Georgian rules in line with related EU rules and adds to the protection of workers’ rights in Georgia.
