Greece: Proof of Submission of Residence Permits Now Being Issued
January 12, 2023
The Ministry of Migration and Asylum is now issuing proof of submission in the form of a paper document for non-European Union nationals who have applied for a residence permit in Greece. This document will allow these nationals to exit and enter Greece more than once while their application is pending for up to a year. These nationals should be aware that the proof of submission does not grant travel rights outside of Greece and that until the residence permit is issued, nationals who are visa-required must hold a D visa issued by a Greek consulate to travel in the rest of the Schengen Area. Authorities introduced the proof of submission document due to the recent introduction of online residence permit applications, which no longer gave applicants any type of proof that they had submitted their application, and which prevented them from providing proof of submission when they exited and tried to re-enter Greece.
