Kenya’s Department of Immigration Services is once again accepting and processing applications for all entry permits and passes, after suspending processing several weeks ago. The Department also clarified that it will regularize the immigration status of any foreign national whose status was adversely affected by the suspension, provided the foreign national continues to meet all of the requirements of the relevant immigration category.
Yesterday, the Department began processing applications in the Special Pass (short-term work permit) and Entry Class D Permit (long-term work permit) categories. Two weeks ago, the Department began processing applications for Entry Class D Permits (employer sponsored), Entry Class G Permits (investor) and Special Passes for workers on government projects or in the manufacturing industry. The Department is also now accepting payments for approved cases in all categories.
The Department has yet to obtain the stationery needed to print approved dependent passes, though these applications are being accepted.
Delays in case processing are likely to continue in the near future as the Department works through backlogs that developed during the suspension. Fragomen is closely monitoring processing times and is working with the Department to assist with clearing application backlogs.
