Due to a recent increase in the number of Venezuelan nationals applying for Colombian visas, in the last two weeks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has increased denials and declarations of inadmissibility for all Colombian visa applications submitted by Venezuelan nationals.
If a visa application is declared inadmissible, a foreign national can immediately submit a new request. However, foreign nationals who have been denied a visa must wait six months before reapplying. When denying a visa application, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not obligated to explain its reasoning.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Employers in Colombia and Venezuelan nationals should be aware of the increased scrutiny and current risks involved in Colombian visa applications. Venezuelan nationals should contact their immigration professional to ensure their applications and related materials are complete to avoid further delays and possible denials, however, it remains at the discretion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to approve any visa.
