India Made Permanent Member of Washington Accord

On 13 June 2014, India became a permanent member of the Washington Accord. Membership means global recognition of Indian degrees and is likely to increase the mobility of engineers to the United States and other countries for jobs. The Accord requires member nations to establish accreditation standards to ensure a standard quality of achievement for engineering graduates. India has been a provisional member of the Washington Accord since 2007. The Accord was signed in 1989 as an international agreement among bodies responsible for accrediting engineering degree programmes. Some 17 countries are members.
