Indonesia: New Health Insurance Requirement for Short-Term Foreign Workers

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is now applying the existing health insurance requirement to those working in Indonesia for six months or less (previously it applied to long-term workers only). Employers must enroll such workers into the ASTAKA (Asuransi Tenaga Kerja Asing/Insurance for Foreign Worker) under the appropriate premium schedule: for those working for one month: IDR 762,000; three months: IDR 1,715,000; and six months: IDR 2,477,000 (the exchange rate at the time of the publication of this update is 1 IDR = 0.000064 USD). To comply with the new requirement, employers must register through the ASTAKA website, purchase the appropriate insurance premium for their foreign national worker and activate the insurance after the ITAS (temporary stay permit) issuance.
