Mainland China: Reinstatement of Multi-Year Visas and Introduction of New Extension Policies
August 3, 2023
The Chinese government again allows the entry of Canadian and U.S. citizens with 10-year multi-entry visas that were issued before March 28, 2020. Entry under these visas had been suspended from March 28, 2020 through March 14, 2023 due to COVID-19. Now, these visa holders have the option to apply for a free three-year extension or to obtain a new 10-year visa once their current one expires, following the standard visa procedures and documentation requirements. Consulates will not accept applications for the same visa category if the 10-year multi-entry visa still has six months or more of validity left, but applicants may apply for the extension after the expiration of their current visa.
