Mali: Visa Bond Required for U.S. Nationals Applying for Business or Tourist Visas
October 15, 2025
Effective October 12, 2025, U.S. nationals applying for a business or tourist visa to Mali must pay a visa bond (financial guarantee of the traveler’s compliance with visa conditions and timely departure from Mali) ranging between USD 5,000 to USD 10,000. Applicants must pay the visa bond in advance and will forfeit it if they overstay their authorized period of stay. The Malian government’s decision represents a reciprocal response to the U.S. policy scheduled to take effect on October 23, 2025, which Mali contends contravenes a 2005 bilateral agreement guaranteeing long-term visa access between the two countries.
