The suspension comes as a response to Venezuela not developing a MERCOSUR visa option for Colombians, even though Venezuela was included in the 2006 MERCOSUR Agreement.
Argentina and Uruguay are the only other MERCOSUR countries that issue the nationality-based residence permit to Venezuelan nationals. It is not yet known if any other country will implement similar measures.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Venezuelan nationals intending to obtain MERCOSUR visas for travel to Colombia and Venezuelans with pending MERCOSUR visa applications to Colombia should arrange for other visa options such as the TP-4 work visa sponsored by a Colombian employer.
