Mexico: Many INM Offices Announce Unanticipated Holiday Closure on November 3

Several offices of the National Immigration Institute (INM) announced today that they are extending closures through November 3 in observance of All Souls’ Day and Day of the Dead. Previously, the INM announced it would only close for these holidays on November 1 and 2. Other INM offices that have not yet been confirmed are also expected to announce closures for November 3 shortly. As a result of the closures, employers and foreign nationals will not be able to submit immigration applications and will not receive any adjudications on their applications, including the issuance of exit/reentry permits or residence cards, until the offices reopen on November 6. Appointments previously scheduled on these days will be postponed. Fragomen is contacting affected clients with case-by-case advice and recommends individuals postpone travel plans if they do not hold valid travel identification cards due to pending applications with the INM. As a reminder, foreign nationals leaving Mexico without a valid resident card or exit/re-entry permit could have their applications and legal status in Mexico canceled. The INM has not yet announced whether deadlines for immigration-related processes that fall on these days (e.g., renewal deadlines) will be suspended and if a grace period will apply once the offices reopen.
