Minimum Salary Level Increased

The situation

Effective January 1, 2018, the minimum salary for locally hired foreign workers has increased to RSD 143 net per hour, up 10 percent from last year.

A closer look

• Minimum salary per month. The minimum monthly salary requirement in Serbia fluctuates per month, depending on the number of working hours, as follows:
  • Months with 160 working hours: RSD 22,880
  • Months with 164 working hours: RSD 24,024
  • Months with 176 working hours: RSD 25,168
  • Months with 184 working hours: RSD 26,312
• Initial and renewal applications. Employers of foreign nationals seeking to obtain or renew a work permit on or after January 1, 2018 must increase the foreign national’s minimum salary to comply with the new rule.
• Pending applications. Employers of foreign nationals with pending work permit applications as of January 1, 2018 must increase the foreign national’s minimum salary to comply with the new rule. 
• Immigration applications that do not meet the minimum salary will be rejected.

• Benefits and allowances. As before, benefits and allowances may not be included in the salary calculation.
