The Netherlands: Amendments to Increase Digitalization of Governmental Processes in Certain Dutch Caribbean Islands
July 10, 2023
The Dutch government has introduced amendments to laws regulating Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba which will digitize immigration processes, by allowing these local governments to register and process the citizen services number (BSN) for residents and introducing digital government facilities, including the DigiD login tool. The DigiD login tool allows residents and companies to conduct business with the government online (for instance, reporting a change of domicile or filing tax returns). By amending these regulations, the Dutch government is increasing parity between the digitization of services offered in the Netherlands and its territories. The amendments are expected to take effect in 2025.
