Foreign nationals residing in Nigeria under a long-term work and residence permit must apply for a new National Identity Number (NIN). The government recently set January 1, 2018 as the deadline for registration for the NIN, instead of the originally-announced timeframe of on or after January 1, 2018.
Those who fail to register by January 1, 2018 will not be eligible for a Residence Permit.
Registration Process
Companies with over 50 employees can invite immigration authorities to carry out registration on their premises. For smaller companies, individuals must appear in person at a designated office.
Documents required for registration include:

Copy of Resident Permit (Green card); or receipt and temporary Green card; and

Copy of passport
Applicants will also be required to submit biometrics.
Background
NIN registration is part of an ongoing government initiative to coordinate databases across government bodies, to facilitate business in the country, and to identify recipients of government services.
