New Zealand: Temporary Process Implemented to Manage Employer Updates After Sale/Restructure
October 15, 2025
Under the current policy, a job check application is not required when Accredited Employer Work Visa holders change employers due to a business sale or restructure. However, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is addressing a system issue that prevents employees on Accredited Employer Work Visas (AEWVs) from being automatically linked to their new employers after a business sale or restructure. Because the system cannot currently create or update job tokens in these cases, INZ has introduced a temporary manual process to ensure records remain accurate. Affected employers must submit a new job check application to generate a job token and formally connect AEWV workers to their new employer. INZ will contact affected employers directly with step-by-step instructions and will waive the job check fee.
A long-term system fix is under development and expected to be implemented next year. This update will automate the linking process, reduce manual handling, and improve data accuracy within INZ’s systems.
