Nigeria: New Mandatory Insurance for Foreign Employees
October 17, 2025
The Ministry of Interior has implemented a new Expatriate Comprehensive Insurance (covering personal liability and repatriation costs for foreign national employees) that employers must pay for when hiring a foreign national in Nigeria under the Expatriate Quota (EQ), CERPAC (residence/work permits), or Temporary Work Permits (TWP) category. The fees for this insurance range from USD 500 for short stays to USD 1,000 for long stays. This new insurance is part of the ministry’s new immigration reforms for employers to cover the costs associated with hiring foreign national employees.
