Nigeria: Visa-on-Arrival Cancellation and eVisa Rollout
May 12, 2025
Eligible travelers to Nigeria must now apply for an eVisa through the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) eVisa portal. Approved eVisas will be sent to the applicant’s email within 24 to 48 hours of submission of the application and must be printed and presented upon arrival in Nigeria, where a visa sticker or endorsement will be placed in the applicant’s passport. Previously, travelers could apply for a Visa on Arrival (VoA); however, this option has been discontinued following a February 2025 announcement by the Nigerian Minister of Interior citing national security concerns. VoA approvals granted before May 1, 2025, will remain valid for their two-week duration, up to May 30, 2025. Travelers are advised that, as the new eVisa system is rolled out, technical issues may occur on the portal during the application process.
