Poland: New Methodology for Proving Language Skills for EU Long-term Residence Permit
April 5, 2023
Update July 7, 2023: The related regulation was adopted on June 24, 2023.
Beginning June 24, 2023, foreign nationals will be able to use certificates from select private examinations or certificates showing that they have passed internal language exams at Polish universities as proof that they have obtained at least B1 Polish language skills; this is required to obtain an EU Long-term Residence Permit. Currently, the only acceptable proof of these language skills is either passing a public exam on the Polish language or graduating from a Polish school or university. The change is intended to minimize the wait time to book a public exam, which can be up to several months. A formal regulation on this matter is expected to be passed on June 24, 2023 or later.
