Portugal: Issue on System for CPLP Residence Permits

The online portal adopted in March 2025 for Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) Residence Permit holders to change personal data related to a residence permit or request a second copy of their residence permit or card is now increasingly interconnected with other Portuguese public authorities’ databases, particularly for social security. While this integration was intended to improve automation and digitalization, in practice there are situations where incorrect or outdated information registered with social security (such as addresses, email contacts, phone numbers or other assignee personal details) may generate validation errors or even block certain actions within the AIMA platform. Such discrepancies between systems can create delays and operational difficulties. In practice, applicants are advised to ensure that their personal information is updated and consistent across Portuguese public authority databases, particularly social security and tax records. Where technical inconsistencies or validation errors arise, applicants should seek case-specific guidance from their immigration provider, as resolution may require direct interaction with the relevant authorities.
