Salary Threshold Lowered for IT Companies Using Highly Qualified Specialist Program

Companies that are registered and accredited as doing business in the IT industry will soon benefit from lower minimum salary thresholds for the quota-exempt Highly Qualified Specialist (HQS) work permit program. IT companies will be able to sponsor foreign nationals earning an annual salary of one million rubles (approximately US$ 29,000) or more, which is half the standard salary threshold of two million rubles necessary to qualify for the HQS program.
IT companies cannot take advantage of the lower salary threshold until Russian officials update their internal processes, and an implementation date has yet to be announced. Additional information is expected in the coming weeks.
