Sierra Leone: Biometric Identity Card and Identity Verification System Introduced

The Sierra Leone government has launched a biometric identity card for Sierra Leone nationals, permanent residents, and Economic Community of West African States member state citizens. In addition, the government has also launched an Identity Verification System that can be used by foreign nationals to open bank accounts, apply for credit cards and other public services. This new biometric identity card and identity verification system are meant to digitize the economy and further improve public service delivery.
