Sierra Leone: Nationwide Immigration Compliance Inspections Begin

Sierra Leone launched nationwide inspections of foreign nationals on June 1, 2026, to verify compliance with Residence Permit, Work Permit and Non-National Identity Card requirements. The inspections form part of the government's efforts to strengthen national security, improve migration management and address illegal immigration. 

A joint task force comprising immigration, labor, civil registration and security authorities will conduct inspections at workplaces, business premises, project sites, residential areas and other locations where foreign nationals may be working or residing. Authorities have not announced an end date for inspections. 

Employers and foreign nationals should ensure that all immigration and labor documents are valid, up to date and available for inspection. Non-compliance may result in enforcement action under Sierra Leonean immigration laws, including arrest, detention or deportation.
