Spain: Simplified Procedures for Foreign Degree Recognition Forthcoming

Effective November 7, 2022, Spanish authorities will open an online platform for recognition of foreign degrees. Foreign nationals with a degree from their country of origin will be able to prove that their education is equivalent to Spanish requirements by submitting their documents online, instead of the previous manual/in-person system. The system will also allow applicants to check the status of their application online. This system is expected to reduce the foreign degree recognition process to six months, whereas it took longer in many cases (depending on the country of origin’s practice). This measure is part of a broader initiative to ease requirements for students and graduates, amid ongoing labor shortages.
