Sweden: Stricter Requirements for Permanent Residence Eligibility Forthcoming in 2027
June 1, 2023
The Swedish government has published a report that will now be presented to stakeholders for comment regarding restrictions for permanent residency eligibility. The report proposes all permanent residency applicants over age 18 (with some exceptions for candidates based on age, though the age exemptions have not been published) to pass a Swedish language exam and a civil exam, which are not current requirements. The tests would cost SEK 1,400 (the current exchange rate is SEK 1 = USD .092). The proposed date of implementation would be July 2027.
