Switzerland: Zurich Immigration Offices to be Centralized; Online Services to be Expanded
April 20, 2023
The 12 district offices of the city of Zurich will be centralized at three locations starting June 12, 2023. The name “Kreisbüro” (district office) will be changed to “Personenmeldeamt” (registration office), and immigration services will be offered at more city locations, giving foreign nationals more options as to the office location for registration and other immigration services. The online service will also be expanded to reduce waiting times at the counters. The centralization is taking place due to the increased workload on the district offices from the COVID-19 pandemic and arrivals of Ukrainian refugees in Switzerland. The goal is to allow more flexible staffing in these offices, to increase the quality of services, and to reduce wait times for registration and other services.
