Mentorship is a powerful tool in any industry, but for most lawyers it can be career-defining. Forging a successful mentor/mentee relationship builds bonds, guides future lawyers on a path of professional development and expands their knowledge of the law. However, there can also be pitfalls brought on by mismatch of styles and ethical dilemmas. So important is mentorship among lawyers that bar associations have built whole programs on how best to approach these relationships.
In this CLE hosted by Thomas Reuters West LegalEdcenter, Partners Kristi Nevarez and Da’Niel Rowan will outline their own paths, insights on navigating the ethics of mentorship and the impact on the legal industry.
Ethics and Professional Responsibility Rules to be addressed include:
- ABA Model Rule 5.1 - Responsibilities of a Partner or Supervisory Lawyer
- NY Rule of Professional Conduct 5.1 – Responsibilities of Law Firms Partners, Managers and Supervisory Lawyers
- ABA Rule 1.1 – Competence
- NY Rule of Professional Conduct 1.1 – Competence
- CA Rule 1.1 – Competence
