Uruguay: Salary Disclosure Now Required for Provisional Identity Card Applications

Uruguay’s National Immigration Directorate has introduced a new requirement for the Provisional Identity Card (Hoja de Identidad Provisoria), which is used for short-term assignments. Employers must now include the foreign national’s monthly remuneration in the filing. Although this change does not alter eligibility or the overall process, it enables authorities to cross-reference information, for example, for Social Security compliance, and calculate any applicable fines (such as those for failure to register employees) based on the declared salary. Employers should ensure that the salary listed in immigration applications aligns with payroll records and Social Security registration to reduce the risk of discrepancies during future audits.
