About Mozambique
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Mozambique—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you're a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Mozambique, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor, you'll need to secure a business visa from a Mozambican consular post. Business Visas allow for a maximum stay of 30 consecutive days from your date of entry into the country. A single extension is available. A 90-day business visa is typically a multiple-entry visa, allowing you to enter and exit multiple times within that time frame.
- Work Authorization: If you work in the mining or oil and gas industry and are traveling to Mozambique for short-term work, the Short-Term Work Permit for the mining, oil & gas sector may be suitable. It is generally valid for six months and allows a stay of up to 180 days per calendar year. Upon approval of the Short-Term Work Permit, a Short-Term Work Visa is obtained upon arrival. Preapproval is required and reserved solely for employers involved in the Rovuma Basin. For other sectors (non-mining or non-oil & gas), this permit allows a 120-day stay per calendar year and can be applied for as a new application once the initial permit expires (at the discretion of the Labour Directorate). Holders of a Short-term Work Permit must obtain a Short-Term Work Visa to enter Mozambique. Upon arrival, the Short-Term Work Visa can be extended at immigration in-country for the duration of the permit. There are two broad categories of work authorization in Mozambique for longer-term work: work authorization within the employer's quota, known as a "communication of admission of foreign employee," and a work permit outside the quota.
- Internships/Traineeships: There is no trainee-specific work authorization in Mozambique.
- Self-employment: If you want to invest at least USD 50 million in Mozambique, consider the Investment Activity Visa. This visa allows multiple entries and a total stay of up to two years with the possibility of extensions. To qualify, your project must be approved by the Council of Ministers of Mozambique or another competent entity.
