About Slovak Republic
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Slovakia—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
Slovakia is a member of the European Union and the Schengen Area. If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Slovakia, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally enter Slovakia without a visa, or need to secure a local version of the Schengen C Visa from a Slovakian consular post before your travel. The Schengen Area limits stays to 90 days in a 180-day period.
- Work Authorization: The main work authorization categories are (1) the EU Intracompany Transferee (ICT) Permit, suitable for the intracompany transfer of managers, specialists, and graduate trainees from outside the European Union; (2) the Single Permit for Local Hires, suitable for locally hiring experienced foreign workers where no local staff is available; (3) the EU Blue Card, suitable for local hiring of highly skilled, highly paid workers; and (4) the National Visa in the Interest of the Slovak Republic, a fast-track route for certain categories especially for highly qualified workers, relocated employees, and drivers. If you're an EU/European Economic Area (EEA)/Swiss national, you won't need work or residence permits to work and live in Slovakia, but if you intend to stay for longer than three months, you must report your stay and register your residence.
- Internships/Traineeships: There is a trainee-specific work authorization category in Slovakia (called Residence Permit for Special Activity - Internship) but it is rarely used and only available to companies registered as shared services centers.
- Self-employment: If you're an entrepreneur, you may obtain a trade license and temporary residence permit to establish a business in Slovakia.
